The Science Department is a vibrant department that introduces each pupil to as wide a range of scientific experiences as possible. The department comprises of two well equipped laboratories run by Mrs Scott and Mr Lappin.
Science is a practical subject and as such we place the emphasis on learning through questioning and experimentation. Our science programmes are designed to foster an inquisitive mind and develop creative and critical thinking in a safe and secure learning environment. Through our practical work the pupil also develops the necessary skills to allow safe working practices and learn the scientific approach to problem solving, interpreting information and reporting conclusions.
Within the KS3 framework, the Department follows the Science Pathways course which highlights the importance of developing pupils as individuals.
At KS4, pupils have the opportunity to follow either the CCEA Double Award Science course or opt for the Single Award Science.
Our GCSE results have been very good, consistently above the Northern Ireland average.
When the student leaves Aughnacloy College we hope that through acquiring scientific knowledge and skills each individual will be better placed and more confident in making informed decisions regarding the transition to further education, the world of work and effective lifestyle choices.
