PE

The teachers in the department are Mrs R Hobson  and Mr C Bowles. From time to time other teachers help out in the department   by taking teams after school.

The PE Department covers the Northern Ireland curriculum for key stages 3 and 4.  Pupils are taught the basic skills of games, athletics, swimming, gymnastics and dance at key stage 3. In key stage 4, the curriculum widens out to cover Health Related Fitness, with visits to a local fitness gym. Outdoor Education is added as an optional extra for pupils wishing to experience the outdoor life.

The department also covers GCSE PE as an option subject.

The pupils study in depth the skills of games, athletics and outdoor education. On top of this they work on a project to improve their own and others fitness. Like coaches they instruct other pupils in the class in basic skills and fitness.

For examination they have to cover theory of the body systems and the effects on them of exercise, as well as reason for taking part and other influences on people taking up sport and exercise.

As part of the examination process pupils must do a project with a presentation at the end as evidence of their work

The department uses video analysis with the GCSE groups to help improver their performance and oral presentation.

The department runs a number of after school clubs as well as some lunch time activity.

e.g. Soccer, Table Tennis, Netball,  Athletics, and Badminton.
