Mathematics

Mathematics is taught at Aughnacloy College by two teachers, Mrs Spiers and Mrs Scott.

Mathematics is taught in a designated room which is fitted with a data projector and interactive whiteboard to enhance teaching and learning.

Mathematics at Key Stage 3 follows the Northern Ireland Revised Curriculum.  All pupils in Year 8, 9 and 10 study Number, Handling Data, Algebra and Shape, Space and Measure.  At the end of Key Stage 3, pupils are entered for the statutory tests in Mathematics at the tier most appropriate to their ability.

In Year 11 and 12 pupils are streamed for Mathematics based on their result at Key Stage 3.  Pupils are taught for GCSE Mathematics following the CCEA examination board syllabus.  All pupils are entered for GCSE Mathematics at the level most appropriate to their capabilities and aspirations.  We normally have one class attempting the Higher tier and one class attempting the Foundation tier.  GCSE modules are taken throughout Year 11 and 12.  The table below shows the results for the past three years.
