The English Department is currently staffed by three teachers:

Miss L Parr – Key Stages 3 & 4
We have the additional support of a Literacy Assistant, Mrs K Stewart, and Learning Support Staff.
English language forms part of the statutory curriculum for pupils in Years 8-12.
There are three broad areas of study: Talking & Listening; Reading; Writing.
Key Stage 3 (Years 8-10)
The Key Stage 3 Revised Curriculum Language Framework is presently being implemented with encouraging results.
Key Stage 4 (Years 11 & 12)
Pupils follow the CCEA GCSE English Language syllabus.

Year 12 students participate in the annual Local Democracy challenge ‘Mayor for the Day’.
We visit the cinema for film analysis and interpretation of fiction.
A theatre visit is used to experience a live performance of a Shakespearean play.
Visits from a local poet and participation in Poetry Workshops are used to improve creative writing.
Audience awareness and journalism skills are developed through the visit of a national journalist.
