Business Studies

“To succeed in business, to reach the top, an individual must know all it is possible to know about that business.”

The Department has an excellent reputation with students and employers over the last 20 years. Subjects delivered are positioned between traditional Business Studies and computer related employability skills.

Great emphasis is placed on using a variety of teaching strategies. Most units of work use conventional examination testing and coursework.

Business Studies is taught in a designated room. This room has computer access to 15 networked computers with a data projector and whiteboard to enhance teaching and learning.

All Year 11 GCSE Business Studies students participate in mini company activities. Pupils are required to develop a mini business from an original idea.  They conduct market research and  plan the steps involved in setting up and running a successful business. The budding entrepreneurs present their business plan as part of their GCSE coursework.

GCSE Business and Communication Systems is another subject offered within the department.  OCR vocational qualifications are offered within this subject area.

The Business Studies Cup is presented on Prize Night to the student who has made the best overall contribution in Business related subjects.
